Meet Benjamin I. Rotwein, DMD
Board-Certified Oral Surgeon in Hilo
I am very grateful for the opportunity to introduce myself to you. My name is Benjamin Rotwein, and I am an oral and maxillofacial surgeon. I graduated from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in 2004 and practiced as a general dentist for 5 years before my residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery.
During my career as a general dentist, I realized that I had a growing interest in oral and maxillofacial surgery and decided to pursue this specialty. I attended Temple University in Philadelphia, PA where I trained in the full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery including oral reconstruction and dental implantology, maxillofacial trauma, head and neck cancer, facial cosmetics, general surgery and medicine. I also received extensive outpatient and operating room based general anesthesia experience working side-by-side with medical anesthesiologists.
I achieved my specialty certificate after serving as chief resident in 2014. In 2016 I completed the rigorous requirements to become board certified. I am a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.
My goal is to provide compassionate care with an emphasis on safety and comfort. In order to do so I make continuing education a priority, ensuring I am providing patients with high-quality care using the latest technology. I offer a range of oral and maxillofacial surgery with a focus on oral reconstruction and dental implants, growth factor assisted bone and soft tissue grafting, dental extractions including wisdom tooth extraction, pre-prosthetic surgery, as well as the removal of benign oral and facial lesions.
In most cases, intravenous anesthesia can be offered to patients to provide them an opportunity to more comfortably receive oral surgical care, especially when they have anxiety or when they are in pain. I maintain current certifications in basic life support as well as advanced cardiac life support. I am credentialed with the American Heart Association as an instructor for basic life support and I routinely train with our staff to ensure that outpatient intravenous anesthesia is performed with the highest degree of safety.
